Golf In Dubai
Golf in Dubai combines the elegance of one of the world’s most popular sports with one of the world’s most stunning locations. A number of sumptuous golf courses have been developed in the area and provide the ideal setting for grand tournaments, including the season-ending DP World Tour Championship and the Dubai Desert Classic.
- Dubai Desert Classic – Held every year since 1992, the Dubai Desert Classic is staged at the Emirates Golf Club in the early part of the season and gives players the chance to collect valuable rankings points. Three-time former champion Ernie Els has the best record of any golfer in Dubai Desert Classic history, while Stephen Gallacher has also won it twice since the Race to Dubai launched in 2009.
- DP World Tour Championship – Launched in 2009 when the Race to Dubai replaced the Order of Merit, the DP World Tour Championship is the culmination of the European Tour season and features the top 60 players in the race. It is staged on the Earth course at the Jumeira Golf Estates and has the potential to determine the overall winner of the Race to Dubai.
Although they do not take place in Dubai, there are two other Persian Gulf golf tournaments that make up part of the Race to Dubai schedule and offer more opportunities for ranking points and prize money.
- Abu Dhabi Golf Championship – One of the newer tournaments in the European Tour, having only begun in 2006, the Abu Dhabi Championship is played at Abu Dhabi Golf Club every January.
- Qatar Masters – Held at the Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar, the Qatar Masters tournament started in 1998, and is also part of the European Tour.
