Race to Dubai 2010
Martin Kaymer enjoyed a superb year to triumph in the Race to Dubai 2010 and become the first German since Bernhard Langer in 1993 to claim the Harry Vardon trophy. The highlight of his season was a maiden Major success at the US PGA Championship in August, but Kaymer also won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, the KLM Open and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell came second in the race, but was rewarded for a stellar season when he shared the Golfer of the Year award with Kaymer, following a momentous decision by the judging panel to give the prize to two players. McDowell won the US Open at Pebble Beach in scintillating style, as well as two other events.
Lee Westwood had been the defending Race to Dubai champion and again competed well throughout the year to come in third, just ahead of fellow Englishman Ian Poulter and Italy’s Francesco Molinari.
The Race to Dubai 2010 featured 48 tournaments in 27 locations, starting in South Africa with the Alfred Dunhill Championship in late 2009. The season concluded at the Dubai World Championship, where Sweden’s Robert Karlsson won the tournament and Kaymer was crowned overall Race winner after McDowell missed the chance to overhaul him.
