Race to Dubai 2013
A new winner of the Race to Dubai was crowned in 2013 as Sweden’s Henrik Stenson took his game to previously unseen heights to see off the competition. He claimed three titles around the world as he also became the first player to win the US PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup in the same season as the European Tour.
Having finished as runner-up at The Open and consistently featured in the top three of big events, Stenson showed no sign of nerves at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship and secured the Race to Dubai with a six-shot victory at Jumeirah Golf Estates, where he fittingly finished with an eagle on the 18th hole.
The season had started in December 2012 with a new addition to the schedule - the Nelson Mandela Championship in South Africa. The second tournament of the competition also took place at the end of 2012, with the remainder being held throughout 2013. There were 48 tournaments in total, played in no less than 26 countries.
While Stenson finished as the clear winner, with a lead of almost €1 million in prize money, England’s Ian Poulter and US Open champion Justin Rose could also reflect on impressive campaigns after finishing in the top three. Graeme McDowell and Jamie Donaldson filled out the rest of the top five, while Lee Westwood was the only previous winner in a fresh-looking top 15.
