Race to Dubai 2014
Rory McIlroy bounced back from a very quiet 2013, when he only finished 35th in the Race to Dubai, to become the first man to win the competition twice. The Northern Irishman won his third and fourth Major Championships, at The Open and the US PGA Championship, and was in supreme form during the middle part of the season to carve out a commanding lead over his competitors.
A victory at the BMW PGA Championship in May really set the wheels in motion for McIlroy’s success, while he also landed the WGC-Bridgestone Invitation title in between his two Majors for the year.
McIlroy also performed admirably at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, coming in joint-second behind Henrik Stenson. Swedish player Stenson had won the Race to Dubai in 2013 and was rewarded for another fine season with a second-placed finish, although his earnings were more than €2 million down on McIlroy.
Justin Rose came in the top three for the third year in a row, while Jamie Donaldson and Victor Dubuisson also occupied positions in the first five.
