Race to Dubai 2015
Rory McIlroy made more Race to Dubai history in 2015, becoming the first player to defend his title and also win it for a third time. While he displayed some inconsistency and also had to contend with an ankle injury, McIlroy produced enough flashes of his best form to become champion once again.
The Northern Irishman won titles at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the WGC-Cadillac Match Play, but knew that he still needed a strong performance at the DP World Tour Championship in November with six other competitors still in the running for the prestigious title.
McIlroy kept his cool to win the tournament by a single stroke and extend his lead over nearest rival Danny Willett. Up-and-coming Englishman Willett triumphed at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in the first event of the season, and again at the Omega European Masters in July.
South Africa’s Branden Grace, Justin Rose of England and Ireland’s Shane Lowry also finished in the top five, while South Korean youngster An Byeong-hun was named Rookie of the Year after coming seventh in the Race to Dubai and winning the BMW PGA Championship.
